This particular texture is very interesting to look at, as it has the feel of an aged photo of marble. Highly original, this work seems to have a great deal of inspiration, but the overall impact is very different than the second look. From a second-look perspective, it isn't as visually interesting the second time. However, the over-exposure impression that this image conveys also seems to hold one's attention.
Wrapping this image around a NURBS sphere and texture mapping it provided some very interesting results, as it took on a very irregular and unpredictable shape. I expected there to be a more-defined cutoff ("seam") than there was, but instead it took on the shape of a piece of wadded up wastepaper trash, or perhaps something sharp and crystalline. Applying this texture to a backdrop and adding stars also had the effect of giving an impression of lightning.
Overall, this was very well done, it's a very usable and beautiful texture, though I'm docking a point for vision because it doesn't seem to have had a lot of forethought about how the texture would be used, and as I use textures all the time I found this one less than suitable for more than 99% of the projects I would work on. But then again, it's really very beautiful, and so that's the only other place I could possibly have marked it down.
Awesome. I'm currently using these as backgrounds for my character sketches (not posted, just brainstorming help)...I like that you have enough style in your pieces to attribute easy symbolism too. Vibrant, yet cracked and broken.
Critique my ass. Its awesome, end of the story XD really like the fusion of the strong violet or whatever it is, with the shades of orange, it remind me a storm that when I was a kid.. sure that was a day I cant forget!!
